This is a presentation I first gave in Jakarta in February 2020 but builds on some themes that I had been developing for some time in my previous role as Vice-president at Huawei Technologies. It discusses the historical evolution of US dominance as both a military power and technological leader, before then discussing the animosity directed towards Huawei on the basis of a number of specific incidents or attack vectors. It concludes with a discussion of the broader context of US-China rivalry and what is needed to overcome or at least emerge safely from this very trying time in global geopolitics.
